Carla has developed her research around the following issues: the body’s internal and external spaces; corporal states and the transitions between these states; time as the focus of perception; and the body influencing other bodies. Focusing on questions regarding ‘the body’s internal and external spaces’, Carla created ‘One’s Being in the World’ and ‘Living Organism’.
In ‘One’s Being in the World’, the artist proposes that the dance happens in a constantly mutating space. The performance can be watched from different angles and is, in fact, composed with the audience, as its members are invited to focus on their own spatial relations by changing their position from time to time.
In ‘Living Organism’ Carla explores movement which comes from her body’s vital functions such as breathing, digestion, visceral contractions and tonus. The project included a number of street performances and ended up with the production of a dance documentary shot in 2004 in Brazil.
